WHAT ARE COOKIES?
Cookies are small text files sent from the site to the user’s computer (usually to the browser), where they are stored before being re-transmitted to the site by the same user on his/her next visit. A cookie cannot retrieve any other data from the User’s hard drive or transmit computer viruses or acquire email addresses and each cookie is unique to the User’s web browser.
Some of the functions of cookies can be delegated to other technologies. In this document, the term ‘cookie’ refers both to cookies, as such, and to all similar technologies.
Cookies are used to: (a) facilitate navigation within the site and ensure its correct use; (b) facilitate access to services that require authentication (so that Users need not re-enter authentication credentials every time they access the services); (c) for statistical purposes, to determine which areas of the site have been visited; (d) for optimal management of pages and advertising spaces; (e) to provide content and advertising in line with the choices made by web surfers (behavioural advertising with dynamic creativity).
Cookies are not harmful to the User’s device. The cookies generated by the site store no personal identification information, which is encrypted and collected by the same to improve permanence and navigation within the Site.
TYPE AND NATURE OF COOKIES INSTALLED
During navigation, the User may receive two different types of cookies:
- From the site itself (so-called “first-party cookies”); and/or
- From other websites or web servers (so-called “third-party cookies”). This happens, for example, when the user visits a page that includes content from a third-party website.
As concerns purpose, we also inform you that the site uses so-called technical cookies, required to ensure optimal functionality of the site for the user. They are not used for any other purpose and can be divided into:
- navigation or session cookies, which ensure smooth navigation and use of the website; these are not stored permanently on the hard disk of the User’s/Visitor’s device and are deleted when the browser is closed. They are used to transmit the identification details of the browsing sessions and to permit safe and efficient exploration of the site. They are, in fact, essential for the correct functioning of the internet page;
- analytics cookies, similar to technical cookies, used directly by the site operator to collect information, in aggregate, about the number of users and how they visit the site, with a view to improving site performance;
- functionality cookies, which enable the user to browse using a set of selected criteria (for instance the language) with a view to improving user experience.
These are all tools used by the Data Controller to ensure, among other things, efficient navigation, session stability and the permanence of the selected language throughout the session. They also serve to store the choices made by the user regarding the display of some elements of the page, such as information and communication banners.
For these cookies’ installation, the prior consent of users is not required, although the Data Controller is obliged to provide adequate information about them and, in any case, their use may still be prevented, at any point during their installation, through the browser settings. However, we inform you that such a choice could complicate, slow down and occasionally even block navigation on the site.
In this web page, so-called profiling cookies are also installed, aimed at creating profiles about the User and used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences shown by the same whilst surfing the net. Prior consent is required to install these cookies, expressed by clicking on the “ACCEPT” button in the relevant banner that appears during navigation and informs the User that this type of cookies is used on the site. The installation can be blocked at any time, without in any way affecting the possibility of visiting the site and using its contents.
If they use the interactive button to block profiling cookies, users receive a technical cookie to memorize this preference. By deleting all cookies from the browser, this technical cookie could also be removed, meaning the User may be required to express his choice to block these cookies using the interactive button.
This web page also installs advertising cookies from partners, which enable an advertising information service of greater interest for the User by acquiring information derived from their navigation and use of some of the services offered. Specifically, these cookies are used to publish personalized ads within the Sercanto portal.
Finally, we inform you that, as part of this personalized advertising service, cookies never store information that could allow the personal identification of Users.
